Did you know that a large number of boiler breakdowns are caused by dirty water and sludge within the boiler's heating system?

If dirt and sludge have built up, it can have a huge effect on how well your boiler runs

and how efficient it is.

What is a power flush?

A power flush mechanical system that cleans your central heating system with a cleaning solution and removes any dirt from inside the pipes and radiators If left inside your system, it can cause serious problems with your home heating. Over time, the water in your pipes, boiler, and radiators produces unwanted dirt that can cause your radiators to not give out as much heat or cause your boiler to break down completely.

A power flush removes the sludge and debris inside your system, preventing blockages and central heating inefficiency. This means that your radiators and your boiler can work more efficiently when heating your home, prolonging the life of your heating system and boiler.

Signs that you need a power flush

Below are some of the most common signs that your central heating system may need a power flush. It is best to get the advice of a gas safe registered engineer who can advise you on whether you need a central heating power flush.

  • Your radiators and boiler are noisy.

  • Leaks coming from your radiators

  • Your radiators have cold patches, particularly at the bottom.

  • Your boiler keeps breaking down and needs to be restarted.

  • Excessive noise from the boiler or the heating system pump

  • Your central heating takes longer than expected to warm up.

  • Some radiators struggle to heat up as well as others.

  • Your radiators are not getting warm, even when the boiler is turned on.

  • No water escapes when you bleed a radiator.

  • When you bleed a radiator, the water is discoloured.

It is a good idea to think about having a power flush on your whole central heating system when you have a new boiler installed.

For added protection, a good-quality magnetic system filter should be installed on the system; this picks up the dirt in the system continuously. This should then be cleaned during your annual service.
